On the opening weekend of the South African top flight, AmaZulu, strugglers last season will be at home, up against giants Orlando Pirates at the Jonsson Kings Park Stadium in Durban. Last season was a nightmare for AmaZulu, winning just seven of their 30 league games and finishing one point above the playoff zone. Orlando Pirates, on the other hand, had a third placed finish, which, by their standards, was also considered a low finish. AmaZulu finished the season rather strongly, with three draws and a win, which guaranteed them survival and they will be hoping for a better campaign this time. The club management has already signaled that intention with much activity in the transfer period. Among the top players brought in include former South African international Siphiwe Tshabalala, who last featured for Turkish side Erzurumspor. The team has also brought in Luvuyo Memela, Augustine Mulenga and Thembela Sikhakhane from Orlando Pirates. With at least 10 new players confirmed ahead of the weekend game, AmaZulu can only hope they settle in fast. The team has four losses in the last 10 matches and failed to score in just two of the 10. Club owner Sandile Zungu has set a top four ambition and backed the team with new players but for a side with four wins in 16 home matches, it seems too much to ask. They have no win in 10 matches against Pirates as well, and have not scored a goal in their last two meetings, while keeping just one clean sheet in 10 meetings with Pirates.

They have strengthened with the signing of Ghanaian keeper Richard Ofori which will also give them an edge. Going to this game Pirates have two losses and six clean sheets in the last 10 matches. They have scored in five of their last six matches, but on only one occasion have they managed to score more than a goal. Pirates have four clean sheets in their last five away matches and have lost just once in the last nine away matches.
