The first of Group H matches in the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) will see Algeria hosting Zambia in a pool that also has Zimbabwe and Botswana. Algeria will be starting the defence of the title they won in Egypt in the 2019 AFCON finals while Zambia who missed out will be hoping to make a comeback. Algeria are straight from a 3-0 loss to Morocco in the CHAN qualifiers and will hope to bounce back, especially given they are playing at home. The loss to Morocco was Algeria’s first in 18 matches. They have two draws, a loss and two wins in the last five matches, with three clean sheets therein. Algeria have not been very incisive in front of goal lately; they have scored more than a goal just once in the last six matches. However, they have been good in defence, with six clean sheets in the last 10 matches. They have also been very consistent in scoring; in the last 15 matches, they have scored in 13. In AFCON qualifiers, they have 10 wins and two losses in the last 15 matches. They have scored in four of their last five AFCON qualification matches. Only one of the five has produced over 2.5 goals. At home, Algeria are unbeaten in 14 straight AFCON qualification matches. They have however lost in each of their last two meetings with Zambia.

Zambia on the other hand, head to this match unbeaten in six matches. They have three wins and three draws in the run and they have scored two goals or more in four of their last five matches. Three of Zambia’s last five matches have produced over 2.5 goals. In AFCON qualifiers, Zambia have not done so well lately. They have two losses in the last three AFCON qualification matches and have no clean sheet in the last 11 AFCON qualification matches. They have however scored in eight of their last 10 AFCON qualification matches. Away from home, Zambia are winless in the last five AFCON qualification matches, with three losses therein. However, they have scored in six of seven away matches in AFCON qualifiers. The last time they toured Algeria they won 1-0 making it two straight wins over Algeria. The two sides have met four times, and each side has registered two wins.
