The African Nations Championship comes to a close on Saturday with a game pitting hosts Algeria against Senegal in the final. Both nations have the chance to win this title for the first time but Algeria will have the favorites’ feel. The hosts are coming from a 5-0 win over Niger in the semi-finals, capping a run of five wins in five at this competition. It was the first time they managed more than a goal in this competition and four of their five matches have posted under 2.5 goals. Algeria have scored in the second half in four of their five matches at the competition. They will once again have to do with Farid Chaal in goal as Alexis Guendouz is suspended. The man to watch though, will be Aymen Mahious, who scored twice in the semis to take his tally for this competition to four.

Senegal, like Algeria, are targeting their first ever CHAN title. Unlike Algeria, who have made two appearances so far, Senegal are on their third appearance. The west African nation has four wins and lost once at this competition. They fell to Uganda at the group stage, which is also the only time they failed to score. Four of their five matches at this competition have ended in under 2.5 goals and they managed more than a goal in just one of them. Senegal beat the tournament’s surprise team, Madagascar 1-0 in the semis and after bettering their best performance in this competition, they have the chance to go one better. Pape Diallo has scored two goals in Senegal’s five matches at this competition and the burden of arrack will rest on his shoulders here.
