Algeria vs Guinea Prediction & Betting Tips - World Cup

Arguably the pick of the matches in this week’s CAF World Cup qualifiers will see Algeria take on Guinea at Stade de Nelson Mandela on Thursday evening. The hosts are currently leading Group G, while the visitors are third. Algeria come into this competition looking to make amends for a shocking Africa Cup of Nations performance. In that competition, they ended bottom of their group and failed to win any of their three group-stage matches, including a shocking 1-0 loss to Mauritania. Since then, they managed a 3-2 win over Bolivia and drew 3-3 against South Africa back in March. While those results were largely positive, both games also revealed Algeria’s weakness in defence on more than one occasion. The Desert Foxes have been perfect in this competition, though, earning back-to-back wins against Somalia and Mozambique last November. However, they now face a significant step up in class of opponents and it will be interesting to see how they fare against a very good Guinea attack. 

Meanwhile, unlike Algeria, Guinea did make it to the knockout stages at the Africa Cup of Nations, albeit as the best third-placed side in the group stage. Nevertheless, they made the most of the opportunity by beating a red-hot Equatorial Guinea, who had not suffered defeat to that point and were top scorers up to the round of 16. They were eventually knocked out DR Congo in the quarter-final but their improvement over the last two years throughout the tournament was evident. With that, the National Elephants equaled their best-ever AFCON finish and are now looking to follow that up by qualifying for their first-ever World Cup. Guinea are on three points after two games, including a 2-1 victory against Uganda and a 1-0 loss to Botswana. While Guinea have to go all-out for the win here, it is worth noting that they have lost their last three visits to Algeria.
