Matchday 37 in the Spanish LaLiga sees a mid-table battle as 11th-place Alaves host 10th-placed Getafe. It’s been a fine return to top flight football for Alaves after just a single season in the Segunda Division following their relegation in 2021/22. A points total of 42 has them comfortably clear of the relegation zone with only two matches remaining on the fixture list. Los Blanquiazules will now be targeting their first top half finish in the top flight since the 2016/17 campaign where they finished ninth. As things currently stand, Alaves trail their opponents by only a single point. They’ll be hoping for a return to winning ways after Luis Garcia’s men reeled off three straight wins from the end of April into the beginning of May. They would see their winning streak cut shot with a 2-2 draw with Girona, followed by a heavy 5-0 away defeat to Real Madrid in the team’s most recent outing.  

There are certainly positives that Getafe can take from the 2023/24 season after three consecutive campaigns of finishing in 15th-place. With 43 points so far on the year, there is still an outside shot that they can overtake ninth-placed Valencia who they trail by five points. Manager Pepe Bordalas will be desperate to solve his team’s current woes as they enter this game on a three-match losing run. A heavy 3-0 home defeat to Atletico on Monday marked the first time this season that the Azulones have lost three consecutive LaLiga fixtures. They’re now faced with trying to stop the bleeding on the road, where they have struggled for consistent victories. The visitors have managed only two wins away from home, averaging just 0.78 points won per fixture compared to their solid 1.56 mark on home soil.
