For the first time since the controversial ending of their Super Cup semi final against Al Hilal, Al Nassr will return to action. This Friday, second placed Al Nassr host ninth placed Al Fayha in the Saudi Pro League at Al Awal Park. Al Nassr’s last match had a sour ending as Cristiano Ronaldo was dismissed for elbowing an opponent. They lost 2-1 to Al Hilal and here they will hope for a much calmer encounter, seeking to return to winning ways. It hasn’t been a great period for Al Nassr but they can build on their four-match winning run in the league. Al Nassr will also want to take positives in having scored in all but one of their last 10 matches in all competitions. In half of those 10 matches, the team scored three or more goals. At 65 points, they trail league leaders Al Hilal by 12 points with seven matches to play. With Al Hilal needing just nine points to wrap up the title, Al Nassr are well placed playing for Champions League football. In the race for Champions League football, they have a 13-point buffer.

Al Fayha will hope to come into this game rejuvenated after a 10-day break. The last time they stepped out on the pitch, they thrashed relegation-threatened Al Akhdoud 3-0. That was their first win in four matches and broke a run of two straight losses. Here they have a chance to build on their first clean sheet in 17 matches. At 35 points, they are 11 above the relegation places. Al Fayha still need about 10 points to guarantee survival, as things stand. They have recently improved on their travels – a 3-1 loss to Al Ittihad in their last away match was the first in four games. It is their struggles against the top teams that will worry them though. In the reverse meeting with Al Nassr back in October, they lost 3-1 at home. That was their 12th winless outing against Al Nassr; they’ve lost nine times in that run.
