Al Ahly will be going for their third straight CAF Champions League when they take on Wydad Casablanca in the final slated for Monday night. Wydad will have the advantage here, playing at home in a one-legged final but Al Ahly will be determined to overlook that, after unsuccessfully appealing against Morocco hosting the game. Al Ahly are going in search of an 11th CAF Champions League title. The most successful African team, Al Ahly head here having lost just two of their Champions League matches this season. Both losses were against South African side Mamelodi Sundowns in the group stages. These are also their only losses in the last 21 Champions League games. In 12 matches in this season’s competition, they’ve failed to score in just two. In their last two meetings with Wydad, Al Ahly have bagged straight wins.

The last time Al Ahly played at Wydad’s stadium, the Egyptians won 2-0 and completed the tie with a 3-1 home win. That was in 2020, three years after Wydad had pipped Al Ahly to the championship in 2017. In terms of titles, Wydad doesn’t even come close to Al Ahly but here, they will be banking on home support in what is supposedly a neutral venue. They are going for a third African title and after a run that has seen them lose just once in the competition this season, they will be confident going into this game. In 10 matches in this season’s competition, they won seven but both teams have scored in six of their 10 games. Wydad have failed to score in just one of their 10 Champions League matches this season. They will want to make the ‘home feel’ count here, as they have drawn each of their last two Champions League games in this venue.
