An enticing match is on the cards this weekend in the Nigerian Professional League when third-placed Akwa United host fourth in the table Enyimba on Sunday. Both teams are separated by one point after 11 matches with Akwa on 19 points and Enyimba on 18. Akwa, winners of two of the last three league titles, are having a topsy-turvy campaign thus far and come into this match six points adrift of top spot. Despite their consistency issues, they have proven hard to beat and have lost just twice thus far. A leaky defence that has conceded nine goals, the second worst of the teams in the top four, has precipitated their uncertainty and they will be keen to be more solid at the back as against Enyimba they come up against a team that has also been plagued by the same issues.

Enyimba come into this match having drawn their last two matches by similar 1-1 scorelines. The first draw was against leaders Bendel Insurance with the follow-up being against second-from-bottom Nasarawa United. This highlights perfectly how inconsistent they have been and having not won against any of the teams above them this season (D1 L2), their chances of a win here look slim. The record Nigerian champions will however take comfort from the fact that they have also proved difficult to overcome with their tally of three losses bettered by only two other teams.
