Ajax will be at home on Sunday in the penultimate round of the Dutch Eredivisie against Utrecht. They come into this weekend in third place on the standings with Utrecht seventh. Ajax have struggled by their standards and have been unable to win a fifth successive league title. They also look set to miss out on next season’s Champions League. Johnny Heitinga’s charges are five points adrift of the Champions League places. They are in pole position to qualify for the Europa League though, but will need to win their two remaining matches. Ajax have amassed 66 points and lead fourth-placed AZ Alkmaar by two points. They ended a run of three matches without a win last time out by battling to win a five-goal thriller with relegated Groningen. Ajax have beaten Utrecht in the last two meetings but haven’t defeated them as hosts in two.

Utrecht won this fixture last season and will still be confident as they come to this match in fine form. They have won four of their last five matches including the last two. Michael Silberbauer’s men have kept two clean sheets in their last two matches and beat RKC Waalwijk 2-0 last time out. This form however comes at a time when their season has figuratively ended as they are only playing for pride. Utrecht cannot finish higher than sixth. They will target that though and at the same time a higher points tally since the 2016/17 season. The visitors can’t drop further either. Utrecht haven't finished with more than 54 points a season in the last five campaigns. If they win their remaining two matches, they will finish with 57.
