Ajax welcomes Rangers to the Johan Cruijff Arena for this opening match of Group A in the Champions League. Both teams come into this match in contrasting form as Ajax have won their opening five matches in the Eredivisie while Rangers have already dropped five points in the Scottish Premiership. The visitors are already in an uphill battle in the league especially after they were humbled 4-0 in the last match by Glasgow rivals Celtic. The home team despite having their squad severely depleted after selling key players to former manager Erik Ten Haag new club Manchester United have looked in great form.

Rangers are playing in the Champions League for the first time since the 2010/11 season after coming through a gruelling qualifying campaign where they defeated another Dutch side PSV in their final match to qualify. Ajax will be confident of victory in this match as they have won all four previous matches against Rangers in European competitions.
