Ajax so nearly made it through to the group stages of the Champions League but lost to Manchester United in the final of the Europa League. So they now have to make their way through two qualifying rounds and had to come from behind to get a 1-1 draw at Nice. Away form was their handicap last season in Europe but home form was much better, particularly in the Europa League with seven straight wins and plenty of goals scored. Nice are playing in the Champions League for the first time in their history though they did reach the quarter final of the old European Cup in 1960. They have had some away win in pre-season friendlies but struggled away from home in the latter part of last season's French Ligue 1. Ajax have far more European experience and are very strong at home so they can be safely backed to get the home win here.
