Dutch giants Ajax will seek some stability to their season when they host Marseille in the Europa League on Thursday. This Group B game also finds Marseille struggling to get a hold of their season. AEK Athens and Brighton are the other teams in this group. Ajax have lost key players in the last two seasons and are struggling to cope as they rebuild. Their decline last season has continued at the start of the current one, as seen in the Eredivisie. In four Eredivisie matches so far, they have one win, and that came on Match Day 1. Right before this game, the Dutch side suffered a humiliating 3-1 loss, inflicted by Twente. In six matches so far this season, Ajax have managed two wins only. Lately, they’ve been poor in attack, failing to score in two of their last three matches. They have just one clean sheet in their opening six matches of the season. The Dutch side hasn’t had a great run in Europa League either, winning just one of their last six. This will be the fourth meeting between these two sides, but one was a friendly match. Their last two meetings ended in draws.

Marseille have managed just one win in their last five matches, a 2-0 win over Brest in Ligue 1. While they are third in the league standings, they aren’t doing so well. They are here following their elimination from the Champions League qualifiers by Panathinaikos. Three of Marseille’s last four matches have ended in draws. Heading into this game, they drew 0-0 with Toulouse, for their fourth straight unbeaten game. The French giants are in a much better shape than Ajax, and will hope it counts here. They have two clean sheets in the last three matches, and only failed to score once in six matches. Marseille have however failed to win any of their last three away matches. The last two ended in draws though. Their away run in the Europa League isn’t great; they have no win in eight straight, three ending in draws. In 16 away matches in the Europa League, Marseille have managed just one win.
