Ajax will welcome the defending Champions Feyenoord to the  Johan Cruijff Arena for an Eredivisie clash on Sunday. The hosts are currently down in 12th place after four matches, while the visitors are fourth, having played five games. After finishing third in the league last season, things have not gone according to plan for Ajax so far this term. They are currently on just five points after four games and already seven points off the top three sides in the league standings. The hosts come into this match following a 3-1 away loss to Twente last weekend. That result marked their third consecutive league match without a win following draws against Excelsior and Fortuna Sittard. Ajax also failed to win their opening Europa League game in midweek, drawing 3-3 to Ligue 1 outfit Marseille. Despite their underwhelming form, Ajax are unbeaten in their last five league home games either side of the break. They will need to be at their absolute best to get anything from this one. 

Meanwhile, the reigning Eredivisie champions won their last league match in convincing fashion. They beat Heerenveen 6-1 at home, and that followed a 5-1 win over Utrecht and another 6-1 win over Almere City. Having drawn their first two matches of the season, the visitors are now on 11 points in five games and just one point behind the leaders, though they have played a game more than the sides above them. Considering their excellent goal-scoring form this season, it’s unsurprising that they are already the highest-scoring team in the league with 19. The next closest is PSV, who have scored 13 to date. In terms of away record, Feyenoord are unbeaten in an incredible 15 matches on the road, including 11 wins and four draws. They also won the last encounter between these sides 3-2 at this venue last season. The visitors are the favourites coming into this match.
