AEK Athens are used to being in the group stages, whether it be the Champions League (as it was last season) or the Europa League. They take on Turkish side Trabzonspor as they bid to reach the group stages in the Europa League. They came into this competition at the third qualifying round stage and beat Romania's Universitatea Craiova 3-1 on aggregate. Only three of their last 11 home European games have ended in defeat. They all came in the Europa League last season losing to Bayern Munich, Ajax and Benfica. Their opponents in this game aren't quite in that class. Trabzonspor are taking part in European competition for the first time since 2015. That was in the Europa League and they were knocked out in the third qualifying round.
