Second placed Adelaide United host Western United who only have two teams below them in the A-League. Adelaide's hopes of winning the main season may well have ended by the time this match kicks-off on Sunday. Leaders Melbourne City have a seven point lead with three games remaining and a win at Central Coast Mariners will secure them the title. Adelaide would then need to secure the second place that will take them into the play-off semi-finals. They currently have a four point lead over the Mariners who are in third. Adelaide come into this home game against Western United unbeaten in their last 12 league games. They'd won four in a row before being held to a 1-1 home draw by Sydney FC. Home form this season has seen them win seven out of 11 league games. Their only home loss was to Newcastle Jets in late December. Since then, they've won four and drawn three with the last five all seeing both teams score.

It's been a disappointing season for Western United who won the play-offs last season. They are tenth of the twelve clubs in the A-League but haven't yet given up hopes of a play-off position. United are only three points behind sixth which is the final play-off position. It's not an easy run-in for them with this visit to second placed Adelaide United followed by a home game against leaders Melbourne City. A big turnaround in form is needed if they are to somehow finish in the top six. They have just one point from their last three league matches and have conceded three goals in each of their last two games. It's that tough fixture list again as their most recent game saw them lose 3-0 at home to third placed Central Coast Mariners. Away league form has produced just three wins with six defeats.
