Melbourne City will seek an immediate response from their A-League opening-round loss when they travel to play Adelaide United on Sunday. The two teams had contrasting results on matchday one and United are currently top of the standings while City are 10th. Adelaide United began the campaign superbly by bagging the biggest win of the round. In their first match in nearly two months, Carl Veart’s men were 3-0 winners over reigning A-League champions Central Coast Mariners at home. The win was revenge for losing to the Mariners in the semifinals of the Finals Series last season. United have avoided defeat four times in the last five meetings with City. They have won twice including the last time they were home against them.

Three-time defending Premiers champions Melbourne City had the worst start to their title defence last week. Rado Vidosic’s men were defeated 2-1 at home by Western United. The Hearts would make an immediate response though in midweek in the Champions League and they will hope for the same on Sunday. City traveled to Thailand on Wednesday and secured a 2-0 victory against Thai champions Buriram United. The City Blues have been active, unlike their soon-to-be opponents who have played one match since August. Sunday’s visitors have played eight matches this season across all competitions and have won five times. Four of those victories have come with them as the away team.
