The advantage as far as the Serie A title race is concerned has swung to AC Milan’s favor and they’ll be looking to make it even better with a win when they host Fiorentina in their next game. Milan top the league standings with 74 points and Fiorentina are seventh on 56 points. Inter Milan’s loss to Bologna in their game in hand gave Milan a big boost as they now sit top with a two-point advantage. Even with the advantage, it is still a tight race but Milan do not have very tough matches coming up. The biggest concern for them will be their unstable run, mostly occasioned by a blunt attack. Milan have failed to score in three of their last five matches, though they have three clean sheets in that run. They are coming from a 2-1 win over Lazio, having risen from a goal down. It took a stoppage time goal from Sandro Tonali to secure three points, and a second win in five games.

Fiorentina have gone on a slump that threatens to derail their ambitions of playing in Europe next season. Their elimination from the Coppa Italia was followed by two straight defeats in the league and they’ve been really poor defensively, conceding two or more goals in four of the last five. Fiorentina have managed just one clean sheet in their last five matches but they’ve failed to score in two of the five. The top four may be slipping away from Fiorentina’s reach after their back to back losses in Serie A, but they can still target a Europa League slot. It is their remaining matches that are a big concern. Fiorentina are set to face Milan, Roma, and Juventus in three of their remaining four matches and all these have top ambitions going into these final weeks of the season.
