On the back of a thumping win over league leaders and with half an eye on the upcoming Champions League quarter-finals, AC Milan find time to welcome Empoli in Serie A to San Siro on Friday. The hosts are third in the standings with 51 points from 28 matches but are in a tight mix as teams from third to fifth are separated by a single point. The visitors on the other hand are 14th with 31 points and 12 points above the relegation zone. Milan are fresh off a 4-0 win over league leaders Napoli that has lifted them to third above city rivals Inter. The confidence should be high as they find themselves in a tight battle for Champions League qualification spots for next year. Crucially for the Rossoneri, with the upcoming Champions League quarter finals first leg against Napoli at this venue, the confidence in the camp is back. Even the home advantage has been counting big with three wins and a draw from their last four home matches in all competitions.

Empoli had a crucial 1-0 win over Lecce that lifted them to mid-table safety as the club celebrated moving away from the trouble. Although they are still not mathematically guaranteed safety, the visitors are relatively safe. The win must have definitely lifted the mood as that result ended a run of eight winless matches in the league – three draws and five losses. They lost 3-1 in the reverse fixture with three match goals coming during the injury time but the visitors will hope they can manage to stay competitive on this trip, having lost three of their last four away matches.
