Aberdeen continue to fight for Europe as they host Hearts at Pittodrie for their last home game of the season. After the disappointment of not being able to finish in 2nd place for the first time in 4 seasons, Aberdeen now have European football to fight for before the season ends. The Pittodrie side haven’t done much to help their quest of finishing runners-up behind Rangers, as it was the Glasgow club that confirmed the Dons wouldn’t be able to overtake them. Moreover, that 2-0 defeat at Ibrox would soon be followed by another loss to Celtic at Pittodrie. The Hoops were eager to win as it meant sealing the league title, which they did with ease. Derek McInnes’ side were easily the better side in the opening 45 minutes, but despite dominating the chances and coming close to scoring, it was the visitors who went ahead 5 minutes from half-time thanks to a brilliant diving header from Mikael Lustig.  Šimunović grabbed his 2nd goal in the space of a week to put the hosts further behind and Édouard sealed the win for Celtic and made Aberdeen’s European dream crumble. Hearts’ end of season form continues as the Edinburgh club is currently bottom of the top 6 teams for the split. Craig Levein’s side have had nothing to play for since their chances of European football were eliminated. The Jambos’ have only won once in their last 7 Scottish Premiership matches, which just goes to show how badly they’re doing. In this run of games, they’ve lost 5 of them to Hamilton, Hibs, Kilmarnock and twice to Rangers; also drawing with their city rivals at Easter Road and managing a win at home to Aberdeen.
