The Pittsburgh Pirates finally got a win after a three-game skid. On Tuesday, they will try to secure their first win streak in a while against the Washington Nationals at PNC Park.
The Pirates bagged a 10-3 win over the Nats in the series-opener behind a dazzling mound performance from ace Paul Skenes. Skenes torched the Nats’ sluggers with one earned run and only three hits in 6.0 innings. For a team that is pitching 4.26 ERA in the season, it’s a breath of fresh air to see Skenes impose his will right out the gates.
The Nationals have struggled since taking 2 out of 3 games in their series against the LA Dodgers last week. Since that series, Washington has lost four of their last five games, knocking down their record to four games below .500 at 6-10. Like the Pirates, the Nationals are going through pitching problems too. They are throwing a 5.50 ERA, which makes them the worst pitching team in baseball.
