Venezuela vs Canada Prediction & Picks - Copa America
by Simon Day | in Copa America Picks
Two of the Copa America's surprise packages meet in Texas on Friday, as Venezuela face off against Canada. Venezuela won all three of their group games, racking up six goals in the process and conceding just one. It is a remarkable turnaround in form from the 2021 tournament, when Venezuela failed to register a single win and finished bottom of their group. As for Canada, they secured their place in the last eight thanks to a battling 0-0 draw with Chile in their final group game. Much like Venezuela, whatever happens from this point on, the Canadians will view this tournament as a big success.Limited Offer. Currently at FanDuel

Venezuela - Canada: Form Analysis
Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of Venezuela's group stage record was that prior to the Copa America they had gone four games without a win. However, their record over the last two years has been very strong, and they have lost just two of their last 18 games. They have also made a solid start to 2026 World Cup qualification and currently occupy fourth place in the South American group. Venezuela's record at the Copa America is largely disappointing, they have made just one semi final appearance (2011) in 18 attempts.
This is Canada's first ever appearance at the Copa America and they have already far exceeded their performance at the last World Cup, when they lost all three of their group games. Their current form is largely uninspiring, with four defeats and just three victories coming in their last nine games.
The two teams have met just twice previously in international friendlies, with both games ending in draws. This will be the first ever competitive game between the sides and their first encounter of any type since 2010.

Venezuela & Canada Squad Analysis
Canada boss Jesse Marsch has not been afraid to ring the changes during the tournament. He made three changes at half time in the game against Periu, a move that paid off handsomely as Canada scored a late winning goal that ultimately secured their place in the knockout stage. The big challenge for Marsch is getting the best out of star player Alphonso Davies. After being played at left back in the first game of a tournament (a 2-0 defeat to Argentina), the subsequent introduction of Richie Laryea has allowed Davies to play in a more advanced role, allowing him to influence attacks to a far greater degree.
Possible starting eleven: Crepeau; Johnston, Bombito, Miller, Laryea; Osorio, Eustaquio; Buchanan, David, Davies; Larin
Venezuela are likely to stick with the team that performed so well in the group stages. That means veteran striker Salomon Rondon will once again lead the line and look to add to his two tournament goals. At the other end of the pitch, goalkeeper Rafael Romo has been in inspired form, conceding just one goal so far.
Possible starting eleven:: Romo; Amaburu, Ferraresi, Osorio, Navarro; Martinez, Makoun; Lacava, Savarino, Soteldo; Cadiz
