Vancouver Whitecaps and Monterrey will go head-to-head in leg 1 of the CONCACAF Round of 16 on Wednesday night at BC Place. The Whitecaps booked their place in the Round of 16 after defeating Deportivo Saprissa in a thrilling two-legged series. They suffered a 2-1 loss in leg 1 in Costa Rica before turning things around in the second leg at home to win 2-0. Jesper Sorensen’s men have also been impressive in the league, winning their first two matches to take the second spot in the Western Conference. However, Monterrey is the most successful team in this competition, with five cups, and they’ll be eager not to crash out this early. They booked a trip to Vancouver after beating Forge 5-0 on aggregate, winning the second leg at home 3-0. Like the Whitecaps, Monterrey is in excellent league form lately, setting the stage for an entertaining clash between two impressive sides.
