This time around, expectations are raised, but can the hosts rise and meet thos expectations? Having held a very strong Brazilian team to a tie in their final warm-up game, the US boys will be feeling confident ahead of what must be described as the perfect game to settle into the tournament against a weak Bolivian team. After struggling massively in their first warm-up game, losing by no less than five goals to nil against the Colombians, the USA bounced back to hold Brazil to a draw. In each of those two games, Gregg Berhalter's men offered an offensive threat, especially on the break, but they simply looked too open at the back, which is a worry, let's be honest. If they are to go deep into this tournament, they'll have to tighten up defensively, make no mistake about that, which may be hard for a team that has kept just one clean sheet since late 2023.

As for the Bolivians, well, little is expected of them at this tournament and rightly so. Despite a shock win in this famous and prestigious competition all the way back in 1963, they've been largely uncompetitive for many years, reaching the final in 1997, before failing to make it out of the groups in eight of the last nine renewals. Ahead of this tournament, they've lost three games on the spin, losing to Mexico, Ecuador and Colombia.

This is arguably the strongest USA squad there's ever been. We're now talking about a squad that has a fine blend of youth and experience, while there are lots of players in this squad who play their domestic soccer in some of Europe's top leagues, which shows how the development of US players has progressed. The likes of Musah, Richards, Scally, Turner, McKennie, Weah, Robinson, Ream and Pulisic, all of whom are likely to start this game, play club soccer in either the Bundesliga, Serie A or the Premier League.

In truth, the Bolivians cannot match this USA squad in terms of prestige. Very few of the Bolivian players play at a notable club level. In fact, youngster Juame Cuellar, who is at Barcelona (yet to make a first-team appearance) is the only player currently playing in Europe. Captain Luis Haquin plays for Ponte Preta in Brazil, while Miguelito is arguably the most high-profile player in the squad, plying his trade for Santos, also in Brazil.

On paper, this is a huge chance for USMNT to lay down an early marker and boost their confidence ahead of what will be much harder games at this tournament. In terms of quality of player on show, the Bolivians cannot match the tournament hosts, let's be honest. Sure, they may have struggled against Colombia, but they bounced back with a much better performance against Brazil, which should hold them in good stead ahead of this match against much weaker opposition. Christian Pulisic to Score

We know that Christian Pulisic is the talisman for Gregg Berhalter. He's got the armband on his sleeve and as the most accomplished player in the squad, he's the one set to lead by example, which he so often does. This is not just a perfect opportunity for the team to start the tournament on the right foot, but it's also a big chance for Pulisic to hit the ground running. The AC Milan forward enjoyed a good season domestically, scoring 12 goals in Serie A, while he boosted his confidence ahead of this by scoring a perfectly executed free kick against Brazil. This is also a player with history of scoring goals for the national team, notching eight in his last 16 appearances. Against a weak Bolivian team he can cause plenty of damage and at early BetMGM odds is well worth betting on to find the net.

Timothy Weah to Score

I'm also rather tempted by a bet on Timothy Weah to find the net in this game, as this must be seen as a big opportunity for the winger/forward to play himself into form. The Juventus man struggled for goals in Serie A last season, sure, but he's no stranger to delivering on the big stage for the US, scoring at the World Cup in 2022, while he netted against Colombia recently too. His pace and direct running will be a big threat here, so much so that he can be fancied to enjoy a good game against opposition that often proves to be inept defensively.
