Uruguay vs Colombia Prediction & Picks - Copa America
by Simon Day | in Copa America Picks
Following two wildly different quarter finals, Colombia and Uruguay face off in a Copa America semi-final that could be the game of the tournament. Colombia demolished Panama 5-0 in their quarter final, with five different players finding the net. This followed a group stage in which they finished above pre-tournament favorites Brazil. Speaking of the Brazilians, they fell victim to an incredible defensive showing by Uruguay in Saturday night's quarter final. Despite losing Nahitan Nandez in the second half, the Uruguayans held on for a 0-0 draw, before winning 4-3 on penalties. Goalkeeper Sergio Rochet was the Uruguayan hero, as his penalty save from Eder Militao ultimately proved decisive.Limited Offer. Currently at BetMGM

Uruguay - Colombia: Form Analysis
Uruguay's victory over Brazil means they have now won five games in a row. During the group stage, they recorded a 100% record, scoring nine goals and conceding just one in the process. Along with Argentina, Uruguay holds the record for the most Copa America titles (15). However, they failed to make it past the quarter final stage at the last three tournaments. In 2021, they were eliminated on penalties by Colombia, after their quarter final finished 0-0.
Following their 5-0 hammering of Panama, Colombia are now the top scorers in this year's Copa America with 10 goals in four games. They have been in scintillating form throughout the last two years and are unbeaten in 27 games, 21 of which have been victories. While their overall Copa record (one title) is nowhere near as impressive as Uruguay's, Colombia have performed better than their rivals at recent events, finishing third at two of the last three tournaments,
Overall, the sides have met on 45 previous occasions, with Uruguay holding a 20-14 advantage. Their most recent matchup was a 2-2 in October 2023.

Uruguay & Colombia Squad Analysis
Uruguay will be without Nahitan Nandez, following his redcard against Brazil. Experienced centre half José María Giménez is likely to come into the team to replace him. Aside from that, Marcelo Bielsa has a full strength squad to choose from, so don't expect any other changes from the quarter final. Maximiliano Araujo and Darwin Nunez have led the way so far with two goals each, but with seven different scorers already in the tournament, it is clear that Uruguay are not overly reliant on their frontmen to provide the goals.
Possible starting eleven: Rochet; Gimenez, Varela, M. Olivera, Vina; Ugarte, Valverde; Pellistri, De la Cruz, C. Olivera; Nunez
Colombia have Jefferson Lerma available after he missed the Panama game through suspension. He will slot into midfield at the expense of Mateus Uribe. Their only injury doubt concerns Jhon Lucemi, who missed the last three games with a minor injury picked up in the first group game. Even if he passes a late fitness test, he will probably have to settle for a place on the Colombian bench.
Possible starting eleven: Vargas; Munoz, Sanchez, Cuesta, Mojica; Rios, Lerma, Arias; Rodriguez, Cordoba, Diaz

Our Uruguay vs Colombia Prediction
This is a mouthwatering matchup and picking a winner is extremely tough. Both teams are playing some superb football, especially in attack, so this should be a game full of goalmouth action. The bookmakers have Uruguay as very slight favourites, but we think this is too close to call and there is every chance that the game goes to extra time and possibly penalties. The odds on a draw after 90 minutes are not especially long, but we still think they represent the best value option. Our prediction for Uruguay vs Colombia is: Draw after 90 minutes, +200 at BetMGM.
