Tottenham host Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night, in a Europa League quarter final first leg that could go a long way towards deciding the future of home manager Ange Postecoglu. It has been a miserable season for the North Londoners, and they are on course for their lowest top flight finish in over 20 years. However, if Postecoglu can lead his team to their first major trophy since 2008, it will salvage the campaign and quite possibly his job.
Standing in Spurs' way will be an Eintracht Frankfurt side enjoying a superb season both domestically and in Europe. They currently sit third in the Bundesliga table and are on course to qualify for the Champions League for just the second time since reaching the final in 1960. The last time Frankfurt reached Europe's top table (2022/23), they faced Spurs in the group stages. The teams drew 0-0 in Germany, but a last minute winner from Harry Kane gave Spurs a thrilling 3-2 victory in North London.

Despite beating Southampton 3-1 on Sunday, Spurs are still set for their worst Premier League finish since the early 2000s. They finished fourth in the first phase of the Europa League to qualify automatically for the last 16, where they came from behind to defeat AZ 3-2 on aggregate.
Frankfurt clinging on
After an incredible first half of the season, Frankfurt have hit a slump in their quest for a top four Bundesliga finish. Four defeats in their last six league games means they have just a three point cushion over the teams chasing them for a Champions League place. In Europe, the Germans finished fifth in the Europa League table, before cruising past Ajax 6-2 on aggregate in the last 16.

Losing their star attacker, the German side have had a hard time filling the void left behind. Frankfurt are clearly in a slump at the minute and are dealing with a major injury crisis, but we still think they will have enough quality to overcome a Spurs side that has struggled throughout the campaign. Currently sitting at 14th place in the Premier League, the London club has simply not been able to string together a cohesive strategy this season.
Although they managed to reach this Europa League quarter-final, Tottenham's path to the last eight has been aided by a very favorable set of fixtures and this game will comfortably be their toughest challenge to date. Given Spurs' displays against the best sides in the Premier League this season, we don't think they will be able to rise to the occasion.
