Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic will try to build on his title-winning run in Acapulco, kicking off his campaign at Indian Wells against Yosuke Watanuki of Japan on Friday. Machac is fresh off winning his first ATP Tour title after ruling the 2025 Acapulco Open. The Czech defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets 7-6(6) 6-2 to cap his impressive run in Mexico that saw him also beating American rising stars Learner Tien 6-3 7-5 and Brandon Nakashima 6-4 1-6 6-4. Watanuki have strung up three consecutive victories to reach the second round of the 2025 Indian Wells Open. His latest win came at the expense of Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan 6-3 3-6 6-3 in the first round. The Japanese did a terrific job holding his serves, scoring 37 points off his first serves and 18 off his second while firing 13 aces. The win improved Watanuki’s record to 7-4 in the season.

Our Tomas Machac vs Yosuke Watanuki Prediction
Tomas Machac marches into his second-round match with a lot of momentum behind him, but so does Watanuki who recorded a big win over a former top-20 player Alexander Bublik. Machac has a 69.2 percent win rate on hard courts and 3-0 in second-round matches, making him the overwhelming favorite for an outright win. However, I wouldn’t discount Watanuki’s capacity to make this an interesting match. If Watanuki can replicate the kind of serves he launched against Bublik in the first round, then I feel like he got a chance to pull off a stunner or even cover the spread at the very least. Our betting prediction for Tomas Machac vs. Yosuke Watanuki: Watanuki will cover +4.5 games.
