College football elites square it off on Week 2 as No.3 Texas Longhorns visit No.10 Michigan Wolverines on Saturday, Noon US EST, at Michigan Stadium. Texas got a smashing start to their season after blanking Colorado State 52-0 in Week 1. The Longhorns were too good in every department, covering 355 passing yards and 190 rushing yards. Quarterback Quinn Ewers passed for 260 yards with three touchdowns, and running back Jerrick Gibson ran for 67 yards on 10 carries with one TD. Michigan kicked off its national title defense with an underwhelming 30-10 win over Fresno State. In a game where they were supposed to win by more than 30 points, the Wolverines could only cover 121 passing yards and 148 rushing yards against Fresno State. Many believe their shaky season opener should be attributed to the exodus of talent that followed suit upon winning the national title. The Wolverines lost not only their title-winning quarterback JJ McCarthy, but the six offensive linemen who played major roles in the team’s success last season.

The opportunity to exact some revenge could not come any sooner for the Longhorns, who lost the Wolverines 37-31 in the CFP semifinals last season. Texas proved in their emphatic season-opening win over Colorado State that they are the team to beat in the SEC and the entire college football, being armed with an explosive offense and unforgiving defense. I did not like what I saw from Michigan’s quarterback Davis Warren in opening day. While I think he can still improve as the season progresses, this early match-up against a National Title contender like the Longhorns will only place a ton of pressure on him to live up to the lofty expectations of the school and Wolverines fans.
