South Carolina took the first in January 67-50, Texas the second roughly a month later 66-62. The Gamecocks won the SEC tournament final 64-45. To earn their spot in the Final Four, Texas had to take down Hailey Van Lith and the TCU Horned Frogs. The Longhorns held TCU to 12-45 from the field and 20% from three-point range en route to a 58-47 win. South Carolina had a more challenging game, needing a 16-8 fourth quarter to beat Duke 54-50.
The Gamecocks also had a hard fight against Maryland in the Sweet 16, winning 71-67. Texas won by a comfortable margin in each game. South Carolina was the betting favorite in all three prior games against Texas.
