No.1 ranked Auburn will square it off with No.6 Tennessee in a showdown between two elite basketball programs on Saturday at Neville Arena. Tennessee has won three of their last four games to stay in the top 10 of the national ranking. After losing a close contest to Vanderbilt 75-76, the Tigers put the clamps on the Mississippi State to win by 12 points, 68-56, on January 22. Chaz Lanier scored 23 points while Jahmai Mashack and Jordan Gainey contributed 10 apiece. The Volunteers’ defense made the biggest impact, allowing Mississippi State to shoot 33.9 percent from the field and 30.3 percent from beyond the free-throw line. Auburn continued to stay on top of the national ranking after preserving their immaculate 5-0 record following a 70-68 win over the Georgia Bulldogs on January 18. The Tigers have missed the service of their leading scorer Johni Broome in the last two games due to an ankle injury. Despite the absence, the Tigers’ system has run like well-oiled machine by playing team basketball and solid defense.
