Even though the Utah State Aggies (27-6 SU, 14-14-3 ATS) are the higher seed, the TCU Horned Frogs (21-12 SU, 19-14 ATS) have been installed as the favorite. That's for a couple of reasons, centering around the fact that TCU plays in a stronger conference. The Frogs got toughened up by the Big 12, widely seen as the best conference in the nation. TCU owns wins over the likes of Houston, Baylor and Texas Tech, which helped it earn its spot.
Utah State was one of the best stories in college basketball this season, as first-year coach Danny Sprinkle didn't return a single player who had scored a point from last year's team. But the Aggies jelled quickly and morphed into a solid shooting team. But their 27-6 record feels like it could be deceiving: Utah State only played two teams in the top 75 all season outside the Mountain West. The Aggies beat San Francisco and lost to Bradley, neither of whom came close to the field.

The closest comparison to TCU on Utah State's schedule was Nevada. Both teams faced the Wolf Pack, and both teams lost that game. But Utah State lost because it couldn't handle Nevada's physical play; TCU lost because it couldn't make a shot. The Frogs should have an easier time inside against the Utah State defense, which doesn't rebound well enough to keep TCU off the glass.
For Utah State to win, it's going to have to hit its shots. The Aggies do have good shooters in Great Osobor and Mason Falslev, but it's going to be difficult to find their shots against Emanuel Miller and the rest of the Frogs' interior defense. TCU makes teams play physically to beat them, and Utah State doesn't seem like it can stand up to that. Our prediction for TCU vs. Utah State is TCU -3.5.
