The Paris 2024 Olympic Games got off to a good start this weekend, and they continue on the courts of Roland Garros with this duel between Dutch Tallon Griekspoor and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in this round of 16. Tallon Griekspoor won his first round match at the Olympics against unseeded Greek Petros Tsitsipas in just 60 minutes of play. A victory that must have done the Dutch player a world of good, given that he had lost 2 games in a row. He was eliminated in the second round at Wimbledon by Miomir Kecmanovic, then lost his first round match at the Bastad clay-court tournament 10 days ago to world No. 185 Timofey Skatov. On these Roland Garros courts, however, the Dutchman managed to win his first 2 rounds against Mackenzie McDonald, ranked 97th in the world, and Luciano Darderi, ranked 33rd in the world, before losing to world number 4 Alexander Zverev in a match in which he won 2 sets. 

Carlos Alcaraz, meanwhile, is the number 2 seed at these Olympics and won his first round match against Hady Habib. With this win, Alcaraz extended his record of consecutive victories to 8, having just won the Wimbledon Grand Slam against Novak Djokovic on July 14. This is a historic victory for the Spaniard, who won the French Open Grand Slam last June and the London Grand Slam for the first time in his career. On these Parisian courts, the Spaniard had beaten Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev, and should therefore arrive much more confident than his opponent of the day for this second round of the Olympic Games.
