Emma Raducanu of Great Britain begins her clay court campaign on Wednesday, battling Suzan Lamens of the Netherlands in the first round of the 2025 Madrid Open.
Raducanu will be playing her first match on the red dirt after making a breakthrough quarterfinal stint at a WTA 1000 level event in Miami three weeks ago. The Brit has struggled to reach the level of play she was on during her championship run at the 2021 US Open Championship because of the combination of injuries and instability in her team. However, the quarterfinal run at the 2025 Miami Open reminded everyone that the talent is still there and the future for the 22-year-old Raducanu remains bright.
to spoil Raducanu’s form is Suzan Lamens, who is coming off a semifinal run at a clay court tournament in Rouen, France. Lamens defeated a slew of strong opponents in that event, including former top-5 player Biance Andreescu 6-1 4-6 7-6(2) and Linda Noskova 6-4 6-1.
