He continued his strong play in the third set, clinching the win with a service break at match point. Berrettini had a smoother second-round win over Christopher O’Connell of Australia 7-6(2) 6-2. Berrettini, who had defeated Gael Monfils 7-5 6-4 in the first round, bombarded O’Connell with 15 aces and produced 31 points off his first serves. The Italians have reached the quarterfinals for the second straight tournament.
