Number 10 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas enters the round of 32 at the Shanghai Masters 1000 against Japan's Kei Nishikori. Stefanos Tsitsipas hasn't enjoyed any real success on the hard court in recent weeks, as he was stopped in the Round of 32 in Montreal by his opponent of the day: Kei Nishikori. Their duel, which ended in a 6-4, 6-4 victory for the Japanese, should leave the Greek looking for revenge this time around, particularly in a tournament he knows well since he was a semi-finalist here in the 2019 season after eliminating a certain Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals. 

Kei Nishikori, wild card in this tournament and former world no. 5 in the 2016 season, won his first round match here by having to come from behind against Argentine and world no. 40 Mariano Navone. Quarter-finalist at the previous Montreal Masters 1000, having been stopped by Matteo Arnaldi, the Japanese player has recently won 2 consecutive matches at the Tokyo tournament against Marin Cilic and then Jordan Thompson. Quarter-finalist at the Japanese tournament, Kei Nishikori won a set against top 15 Holger Rune in the quarter-finals, and should therefore be in a position to contest a rather tight match against the Greek in this round of 32.
