Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece gets a tough opponent in the first round of the 2025 Australian Open as he faces promising American Alex Michelsen on Sunday. Tsitsipas had mixed results in his two matches before plunging into action at the Australian Open. The fiery Greek opened the 2025 ATP season with a 6-4 4-6 6-3 win over Spain’s Pablo Carreno-Busta and then lost his next match to Alexander Shevchenko of Kazakhstan 6-4 7-6(0). Tsitsipas hopes this will be the year he will capture his first-ever Grand Slam crown after two finals appearances. Michelsen reached the quarterfinal of the ASB Classic in Auckland, where he lost to fellow American Nishesh Basavareddy 2-6 6-2 6-4. Michelsen is one of the young stars to watch out this season on the tour after showcasing a ton of promise during his 2024 ATP season campaign.
