Stan Wawrinka kicks off his preparation for his final Olympic run in Paris which will begin less than two weeks from now. The three-time Grand Slam winner will take on Lukas Klein of Slovakia in the first round of the men’s singles tournament at the 2024 Swiss Open. Wawrinka gears up for the 2024 Paris Olympics, in which he has received a wildcard entry to participate in the men’s singles tourney to be held on the fabled red dirt of Roland Garros. A former French Open winner himself, Wawrinka hopes he can pair another medal with the Olympic men’s doubles gold he won with Roger Federer in 2008. He has been an underwhelming 2024 campaign for the future Hall of Famer as Wawrinka won only five of the 16 matches he played this season. The 26-year-old Klein is still searching for his first final stint in an ATP Tour-sanctioned tournament. The Slovakian has 9 career titles on the ITF/Challenger level but hasn’t earned much success in the ATP Tour so far. A win over a 39-year-old Wawrinka on Tuesday would easily be the highlight of his career.
