Stan Wawrinka will kick off another attempt to complete a career Grand Slam on Monday, duking it out with Charles Broom of Great Britain in the first round of the gentlemen's singles tournament at the 2024 Wimbledon Open. Wawrinka, who won a Grand Slam in the French, US, and Australian Open, hopes his 18th main draw appearance in Wimbledon will lead him to his first major title on grass. The ATP veteran has a challenging year with a dismal 3-8 record, failing to reach the third round in all the tournaments he competed in this year. Meanwhile, Charles Broom participated in four grass-court tournaments leading up to this year’s Wimbledon, including the Nottingham Challenger. In this tournament, the Briton recorded six consecutive victories to reach the finals, where he lost to compatriot Jacob Fearnley in three sets 4-6 6-4 6-3. After receiving a wild card entry, broom will be making his Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon.
