The Red Sox returned to Fenway Park and did so in fine fashion, beating the Cardinals 13-9 in the first game of the series. The Red Sox arrived in Boston after two road series with a 3-4 record, with a series of positive and negative stories surrounding the team in the first few weeks.
Devers had one of the worst starts of any hitter, going 0-for-19 to start the season, but he began to turn things around in the series with the Orioles and, embraced by the Red Sox fans, reached base four times in his return to Fenway Park as a DH. Bregman, who replaced him at 3B, also had two hits in the offensive feast and is batting .290 to start the season. Meanwhile, Campbell is trying to justify the multimillion-dollar contract he recently signed with the Red Sox on the field and is doing so in fine fashion, batting . 417 to start the season, with two home runs and four RBIs.
The Cards also started off with strong offensive numbers in 2025, but their three runs in the ninth inning proved insufficient. The Cardinals' first five batters in Game 1 all had at least one hit, with Burleson's performance highlighting the game, as he went 3-for-4 batting as the designated hitter.
