Fresh off a quarterfinal stint in Dubai, Cirstea has kept her momentum going as she grinded out a 6-3 0-6 6-1 win over Laura Siegemund of Germany in the first round. Cirstea raked in 33 points off her first serves while converting five breakpoints. Shnaider survived an opening-round scare from Tatiana Prozorova 0-6 6-2 7-5 to reach the round of 16. After getting blanked in the first set, the Russian cranked it up in the second set to level the score and then made several clutch shots to complete the comeback win.
