Alexander Zverev of Germany looks to continue his momentum as he braces for a rough second-round contest with Lorenzo Sonego of Italy at the 2024 Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, Germany. Zverev, the No.2 seed in the tournament, survived an upset scare in the first round as Oscar Otte took him to the limit, 6-7(5) 6-3 6-4. Zverev recorded 28 aces and won 79 percent of the first serves. However, Otte surprised him with a sharp defensive game, winning 33 percent of the return points. Zverev aims for a more robust build-up campaign for this year’s Wimbledon Open, the only Grand Slam tournament in which he hasn’t reached the quarterfinal round yet. Meanwhile, Sonego secured his second-round stint at Halle Open with a gutsy 7-6(6) 7-6(5) win over Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia. The Italian won 85 percent of the first serves and scored 83 points. The second-round game at the Halle Open will mark the fourth time Zverev and Sonego face each other. The German won the previous three encounters, including a 6-7(5) 6-3 6-4 win in last December’s Robin Cup.
