Sofia Kenin of the United States will take on compatriot Bernarda Pera in the first round of the 2025 Charleston Open.
Kenin has had an underwhelming campaign during the Sunshine Double, reaching only the second round of both the Indian Wells and Miami Open. The former Australian Open champion suffered the most humiliating defeat in tennis at the hands of Coco Gauff, losing to her fellow American player 6-0 6-0 in the second round of the 2025 Miami Open.
Pera shared similar outcomes with Kenin, crashing the early rounds of both the Indian Wells and Miami Open. Pera racked up three consecutive matches before losing to Jessica Pegula 6-4 6-4 in Miami. Days later, she suffered a 5-7 6-3 6-4 loss to Rebeka Marasova of Switzerland in the second round of Puerto Vallarta Open.

Pera boasts a win over the former Australian Open titlist, defeating Kenin 6-2 5-7 6-3 in their first and only match to date in the Tennis in the Land 2022 quarterfinal.
