The American rallied from a set down and again from a 2-5 deficit in the third set to force a nail-biting tiebreaker in Cincinnati. Tiafoe, a former US Open semifinalist, showed grace under pressure in the tiebreaker as he scored clutch winners to arrange a showdown with the No.1 tennis player in the world. Sinner is also coming off a three-set semifinal battle against old rival Alexander Zverev. Sinner and Zverev duked it out through three sets of high-level tennis that produced a combined 245 points and 27 aces. The top-ranked players continued to go toe-to-toe in the third set until Sinner found a way to gut out a 7-6(9) 5-7 7-6(4) win in the tiebreaker.
