Jannik Sinner vs Alexander Zverev Prediction & Picks - ATP Australian Open
by Lou Aguila | in ATP Australian Open Picks
Jannik Sinner of Italy will take on Alexander Zverev of Germany in a titanic showdown for the Australian Open men’s singles title on Sunday on Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia. Sinner reached the final of the Australian Open for a second straight year after making quick work of Ben Shelton of the United States 7-6(2) 6-2 6-2. Still hot after disposing Alex de Minaur also in straight sets in the quarterfinal 6-3 6-2 6-1, The Italian faced resistance from the big-serving Shelton in the first set, where he was broken two times. Sinner still made the big shots down the stretch to capture the first set via tiebreaker. Shelton, however, could not hang around much as Sinner raised the ante in the following two sets to secure his second consecutive straight-set win and a place in the championship match. Zverev advanced to his first Australian Open final after Novak Djokovic retired from the game due to a muscle tear. Zverev took the fight out of the 24-time Grand Slam champion after edging him in the first set tie-breaker 7-6 (5). The win propelled him to a third Grand Slam final appearance and, most importantly, gave him another shot at a major title after coming up short at the 2020 US Open and 2024 French Open.

Jannik Sinner & Alexander Zverev Squad Analysis
Jannik Sinner struggled with his fitness during his match with Holger Rune in the round of 16. Before his quarterfinal match with Alex De Minaur, there were rumors that Sinner had pneumonia-like symptoms, though he quickly squashed the unconfirmed report by putting together a masterful performance against De Minaur, eliminating the Aussie in straight sets.
The bicep strain that forced Alexander Zverev to withdraw from the United Cup is no longer an issue in Melbourne.
Zverev has already logged 18 sets in this tourney, never showing an indication of an injury and expressing concerns about his stamina. The German is tip-top and looks prepared to take on Sinner in a long match.

Our Jannik Sinner vs Alexander Zverev Prediction
Alexander Zverev is one of few players on the tour with Sinner’s number. Zverev has a 4-2 edge in the head-to-head series, beating the Italian three times on the hard court. Sinner won their last encounter in the semifinal of the 2024 Cincinnati Masters 7-6(9) 5-7 7-6(4), but that match was tightly contested, and it could have gone either way. I know Sinner is the overwhelming favorite in this final, but I am throwing the gauntlet here: Zverev will win his first Grand Slam in a five-setter. Sinner has been playing terrific tennis throughout the competition, but you can say the same for Zverev, who has only lost two sets in this tourney. The German is also 3-for-3 in the tiebreaker, whereas Sinner is 2-for-3. Beating the world’s No.1 and defending champion is no easy feat. However, I really believe that this is the year when Zverev finally gets over the hump and challenges the Alcaraz and Sinners of the world on the ATP Tour. Our betting prediction for Alexander Zverev vs. Jannik Sinner: Zverev will win.

These numbers only suggest that this match has the potential to go the distance, which already happened once in their head-to-head at a Grand Slam event.
