The 2025 Major League Soccer season gets underway for the Seattle Sounders on home soil, where the men who went close last year will take on Charlotte FC. Visiting Lumen Field, which is always one of the trickiest MLS venues to go to, Dean Smith's men will be hoping to begin building on what was a positive 2024 season.
It was disappointment for the Seattle Sounders in the end last season, with the MLS Cup Final regulars losing out at the last hurdle, coming unstuck against the eventual MLS Cup winners in the Western Conference Final. Such an effort was commendable, make no mistake about that, and let's face it, as thhey usually do, Brian Schmetzer's men will once again look to give it a good go in 2025.
As mentioned above, under the leadership of Dean Smith, Saturday's visitors turned into quite a useful team last season, especially in a defensive sense. In fact, no Eastern Conference team ended the regular season having conceded fewer goals than Charlotte, while only the Sounders themselves conceded fewer goals across the entirety of Major League Soccer. Will either side retain their defensive solidity here?
