The Seattle Mariners (50-43 SU, 40-53 ATS) take on the San Diego Padres (49-46 SU, 48-47 ATS) to conclude their brief two-game series. The Mariners had a rare power surge on Tuesday, scoring eight runs and banging out 13 hits in the victory. Strangely enough, none of the Mariners’ top three hitters managed to get a hit, while the remaining six all seemingly hit at will.
They might have to do it again, because Bryce Miller really hasn’t done the job when he’s gone on the road. In his past four away starts, he’s come out on the losing end three times, giving up at least four earned runs every time. He’s posted a 6.28 ERA in his road starts this season, compared to a sparkling 2.10 ERA at home. Seattle cruised with Logan Gilbert on the mound last time, but this time, the Mariners don’t have the pitching edge.

Michael King has pitched fairly well since moving from New York to San Diego. The Padres have chosen to make him a starter much more than a reliever, and he’s justified their faith in him. Out of his past eight starts, only Milwaukee managed to get more than two runs against him.
That plays perfectly with Seattle’s weak bats. The Mariners don’t hit well most nights, ranking dead last in the majors in runs scored. The explosion on Tuesday was likely an aberration, caused by San Diego having a poor pitcher on the mound. Now the Padres have the edge on the hill and should handle the Mariners. With close games not happening in this series, our prediction for Seattle vs. San Diego is Padres -1.5.
