Emma Raducanu opens her campaign at the Miami Open against Sayaka Ishhi on Wednesday.
Raducanu is eyeing a strong result in Miami after she crashed out in the first round of the Indian Wells at the hands of Moyuka Uchijima of Japan 6-3 6-2. The first two and half months of the 2025 WTA season has been challenging for the former US Open winner, who joined the action at the Miami Open with a 3-6 record.
Eager to face Raducanu is another Japanese, 19-year-old Sayaka Isshi. Isshi is fresh off a semifinal stint at W75 Trnava, where she strung up three wins in a row before succumbing to Valentina Ryser 6-3 7-5 in the final four. The game vs. Raducanu will mark only the fifth time Isshi will be playing against a player that ranks inside the WTA top-100.

Our Sayaka Ishii vs Emma Raducanu Prediction
Tip: Bet hard on Raducanu to win in straight sets against Isshi.
I know Raducanu has been pathetic this season. She’s 3-6 in the year and 1-3 in WTA 1000-level tournaments. Despite her struggles, Raducanu is still a 10x better player than Isshi, who has four career matches against a top-100 WTA player. At 19, there’s little to expect from the Japanese at this point of her career. Unless she’s as talented as the 17-year wunderkind Mirra Andreeva, there’s nothing Issi can do but play her best and hope she can snatch a few games from an out-of-form Raducanu. Our betting prediction for Emma Raducanu vs. Sayaka Isshi; Emma Raducanu will win 2-0
