The overall #1 seed and defending champion UConn Huskies will face the 5th seeded San Diego State Aztecs in a rematch of last year’s national title game. UConn made short work of the Aztecs last year and won 76-59. The Huskies shot over 35% from beyond the arc while holding the Aztecs to just 32% from the field. The ability to force contested shots combined with solid shooting led the Huskies to the title. In this matchup, some things have changed but some things have also remained the same. This Aztecs team is in the Top 10 in defensive efficiency, which is a step up from where they were last season. In their 1st round matchup with UAB, things got a bit hairy near the end but the Aztecs were able to sneak out a 69-65 victory. They then destroyed the upset-minded Yale Bulldogs 85-57 in the 2nd round. For the Huskies, they have yet to be tested. After beating Stetson by 39 in the opening round, they handed Northwestern a 17-point loss in a game that never seemed close. Jaedon Ledee will look to continue his strong scoring as he is averaging 29ppg. For the Huskies, big man Donovan Clingan, will be the focal point around the basket. He fell just 2 blocks short of a triple-double against Northwestern and has been a force on both ends of the floor.
