The San Diego Padres will travel to the Big Apple in a National League meeting with the Mets on Friday night. The Padres will have the day off on Thursday to make the trip to the East Coast, while the Mets will still be in the office Thursday night to wrap up their series with the Miami Marlins. It has been a first quarter to forget for Mets fans, with a 29-37 record nobody will be proud of, especially not the front office. Steve Cohen has poured in plenty of cash in an attempt to make a superteam, but all efforts have fallen flat. They were also in the news for the wrong reasons when pitcher Jorge Lopez lashed out at his now-former club, calling the Mets “probably the worst franchise in the MLB.” Sean Manaea will get a chance to right those wrongs as the named starter, while Matt Waldron will do his best to limit Pete Alonso and co.
