The San Diego Padres (65-52 SU, 62-55 ATS) continue their series with the Miami Marlins (43-74 SU, 54-63 ATS) as winners of eight of their past nine games. The Padres, once considered to be lucky to win an NL wild card spot, now own the best record of the non-division leaders in the National League and have their sights firmly set on catching the Dodgers.
San Diego has been a little fortunate with its schedule, as it has built much of its success off Colorado, Miami, Pittsburgh and Washington. But the Padres did also take two from the Dodgers at Petco Park and won two of three from both the Orioles and the Guardians. If San Diego does make it into the postseason, it will fear nobody, as it has already proven it can win the games that matter.

Look up consistently inconsistent in the dictionary, and you might well find a picture of Roddery Munoz. The Marlins’ starter tends to follow one good game with one poor one, as he has bounced between six earned runs and two or less over his past six starts. Last time out was the bad version, as the Reds tagged him for six earned runs in 3.2 innings of a 10-3 loss. Before that, however, he pitched well against Tampa Bay.
Matt Waldron has looked sharp on the mound away from home, posting a 3.10 ERA for the year away from Petco Park. He seems to pitch more to the level of competition, as he handled the Rockies with ease but struggled against the Dodgers and the Guardians. Against the Marlins, he should have a handle on things.
