Having delivered an impressive showing during their first season in Major League Soccer, the St. Louis City boys came crashing back down to earth last season. Can they make a better fist of things this time around? They begin the new campaign on Saturday evening with a home game against the Colorado Rapids, who'll go to CITYPARK in search of their first competitive away win since August.
Olof Mellberg, formerly a player for several European clubs, such as Aston Villa, is now in charge of the hosts, who will definitely be looking to improve. If the players they brought in to pleasing effect towards the end of the previous campaign can click with the new head coach and hit the ground running, then it's easy to see St. Louis City enjoying a more promising campaign in 2025.
For the Rapids, the last season didn't go so badly. They made the play-offs, and were unfortunately drawn against the eventual MLS Cup winners (LA Galaxy), so their postseason progress was non-existent. Chris Armas' men will be looking to do a little better this time around, though their deaings in the transfer window don't appear to be as eye-catching as what's happened elsewhere, so improving on that last regular-season finish won't be easy.
